I opened Serenity Haven in September 2009 after qualifying with a Degree in Complementary Therapies. I have always had a strong interest in complementary & natural healthcare from an early age & I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to study Professional Practice in Complementary Therapies at Newcastle Lifestyle Academy. The course covered a number of modules in holistic treatments as well as intensive study of anatomy and physiology that gave me great insight into how the treatments work. The course included a 1 year work placement at the East End Community Health Project in Newcastle upon Tyne, receiving GP referred clients on a weekly basis. This project sought to bridge the gap in health inequalities in the North East and it was here that I really learned the benefits of Massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology and successfully improved several conditions over time such as repetitive strain injury, whiplash and anxiety.
I then went on to open Serenity Haven therapy centre in 2009 that provided a base for which other therapists could work from. Due to the economic climate I closed the centre in 2011 and continued my work as a mobile therapist. I discovered this service was more convenient for many of my new and existing clients which allows my customers to relax at home following their treatment.
I am dedicated to professional development and over the years I have completed additional training in myofascial release techniques as well as pregnancy massage and maternity & fertility Reflexology. I use all the skills I have developed over the years to offer an individualised massage treatment.
In addition to my mobile therapy business, I have trained and work as a mental health nurse. This combined experience has given me understanding of the importance of bringing balance to both the physical and mental aspect in order to support overall health. I truly believe from many years’ experience as a complementary therapist that the deeply relaxing and therapeutic treatments I offer can have amazing benefits to both physical and mental wellbeing.
